Community centers run on shoestring budgets with patchwork tech — spreadsheets for client tracking, manual grant reporting, no coordinated intake systems. Worker co-ops are structurally democratic but operationally chaotic — governance decisions need tracking, financial transparency is a core value but hard to implement, grant applications for cooperative development are time-intensive. Most co-ops are small (under 20 workers) and can't afford enterprise tools. They deeply distrust big tech and data extraction.

DV programs handle the most sensitive data imaginable — shelter locations, safety plans, legal filings, children's records. NNEDV already runs the Safety Net Project focused on technology-facilitated abuse, meaning they are hyper-aware of tech risks. Local programs need secure case management, grant tracking, and coordination tools that DON'T route data through cloud servers.

MAXIMUM. A database breach at a DV shelter can get someone killed. On-premise deployment isn't optional — it's the only ethical architecture. This is where LL's "privacy by architecture" message has the most visceral impact.

NTEN members ARE the nonprofits that need LL products — but NTEN's role is as the technology advisor. They already published an "AI Framework for an Equitable World" that aligns with LL's values. Their members are actively trying to figure out how to use AI without compromising their missions.

Harm reduction orgs operate in a legal gray zone. Their data is subpoena bait. Client records showing drug use patterns could be used for prosecution. Programs need to track outcomes for funders while protecting participants from law enforcement. Most use paper records or consumer-grade tools.

EJ orgs are fighting fossil fuel companies, municipal governments, and federal agencies simultaneously. Many are tiny BIPOC-led grassroots orgs in frontline communities with minimal tech infrastructure. They also face surveillance from corporate opposition and law enforcement.

Reentry orgs coordinate across parole/probation, housing, employment, substance abuse treatment, mental health, benefits enrollment. Each participant has a unique matrix of needs. Case management is a nightmare of siloed systems. Their clients are among the most surveilled people in America.
